J.M. Steele & T.C. Steele Art
Tod and Jeanne Marie Steele are a husband-and-wife artistic duo based in Gold Beach, Oregon, who share a deep passion for Western themes and animal subjects. Jeanne Marie, trained under renowned painters Sebastian Capella and Perrietta Hester, is known for her luminous, multi-layered paintings that evoke an “old world” richness in her Western landscapes and subjects. She is an Associate Member of Oil Painters of America.
Tod, who began painting on his 49th birthday, has developed what he playfully calls “Expressionistic Moomoo-ism” – a joyous, energetic style celebrating cows and other animals. Drawing inspiration from his early experience in Animal Husbandry, as well as artists like Van Gogh and Gauguin, he creates vibrant, textured works aimed at bringing smiles to viewers’ faces.
Both California natives, the Steeles continue to travel throughout the American West, finding inspiration in its landscapes and creatures. Their complementary styles – Jeanne Marie’s thoughtful luminescence and Tod’s exuberant expressionism – reflect their shared dedication to capturing the spirit of the West and its animal inhabitants.
