Gain Perspective at the Edge of the World
Spring arrives on the South Coast with a gentle touch, waking up the landscape with vibrant colors. This season of renewal is the perfect time to focus on your own well-being. From quiet forests to creative communities, our coastline offers unique ways to relax, recharge, and reconnect.
Awaken Your Senses with Coastal Flowers
Nothing says “renewal” like the delicate beauty of spring blooms, and what’s more inspiring than wildflowers blooming along a coastal trail? Immerse yourself in these can’t-miss spring wildflower hikes. For a more cultivated display, visit Shore Acres State Park, where flamboyant hues take over in spring. Plan your trip around Memorial Day and experience the Azalea Festival in Brookings, a cherished tradition.

And, while we encourage you to leave the flora untouched for others, you can still take wildflowers, rugged headlands, and even redwoods home by capturing them at the popular 6-day Southern Oregon Coast Photo Workshop. This small-group workshop, led by the Cascade Center for Photography, happens May 17-22, 2026.
Meditate with a Mindful Nature Walk
The practice of shinrin-yoku, or forest bathing, is all about immersing yourself in nature and absorbing the peaceful atmosphere of the woods. It’s not about hiking miles, but rather slowing down and engaging your senses. This guide provides some top spots in the Coos Bay/North Bend area, but magnificent forest trails, like the Oregon Redwoods Trail, can be found up and down the Southern Oregon Coast.
Walking a labyrinth is an ancient practice designed to quiet the mind and usher you toward a center point, both physically and metaphorically. Circles in the Sand (April – August), is an outdoor art installation on the expansive beaches of Bandon, emulating this primeval ritual. Swept away by the rising tide, this fleeting art reminds us to value the present moment.

Get Away to Spark Creativity
Sometimes, rest isn’t about doing nothing, it’s about doing something that feeds your soul. How about art? Bring your sketch pad and watercolors, and let our coastal views inspire you. Check out the Southern Oregon Coast Public Art Trail, or sign up for the Botanical Illustrations in Watercolor workshop at the Coos Art Museum from April 24-26, 2026.
Writers can find their muse in the quirky port town of Port Orford. Hole up with your journal in a cozy cabin or participate in a writer’s workshop. Sea Wolf Books, a creative hub run by Oregon Book Award finalist Charlie J. Stephens, will host a series of writing workshops in Spring 2026. These include April Poetry Prompts every Friday, a Mini-Fiction Class on May 22, and a Mini-Memoir Class on June 20. To learn more and sign up, email info@seawolfbooks.com.
For a bit of fun, head to Gold Beach for their Glass Float Treasure Hunt. During April, hundreds of glass floats are hidden along the beach. If you snag one, bring it to the Visitor Center to enter prize raffles. After the hunt, stop by First Chapter Coffee House, a lively bookstore cafe featuring all the latest reads, plus a “Springing into Summer” art exhibit through early July.

Relax, Reflect, Renew
There’s nothing like standing before the expanse of the ocean to put things into perspective. Feeling small in the face of the universe can be grounding. Roll out your yoga mat for a sun salutation in an epic location like Shore Acres or Sunset Bay State Park, both near Charleston’s colorful marina. Or, for just $5, you can drop into a weekly Wednesday yoga class at the Coos Art Museum. For a deeper experience, Coastal Cliffs in Brookings hosts overnight Awakening Retreats and Women’s Circles from their stunning clifftop location.
Spring is also prime time for whale watching. Seeing a gray whale spout in the distance is a reminder of how wild and wonderful the world truly is. Use this handy guide to get started. As a bonus, clear coastal skies offer some of the best stargazing around.
Choose Your Sanctuary
The South Coast offers many wonderful places to unwind. For a touch of nature, go glamping in a yurt, get cozy with a novel (or start writing one!) in an enchanting cabin at Wildspring Guest Habitat. After an invigorating day, relax in the heated pool and sauna at Tu Tu’ Tun Lodge, or pamper yourself at K. Cherie, the Botanical Spa Retreat at Endicott Gardens Boutique Hotel. Both the spa and the inn’s rooms are set among exquisite gardens, making them perfect for a visit during the spring bloom.

Your Spring Reset Awaits
Finding wellness doesn’t require a complicated itinerary. Just show up and let nature work its magic. Choose your sanctuary, then pack your hiking shoes, a yoga mat, a drawing pad, or maybe that creative project you’ve been meaning to start.
The mist is lifting. The flowers are blooming. The ocean is calling.
