Agness

Right in the Heart of the Rogue

by Erik Urdahl

Situated at the confluence of not one, but two Wild and Scenic Rivers, the tiny town of Agness is a basecamp for sensational outdoor fun.

Agness sits where the Illinois River feeds into the Rogue, smack in the middle of the Rogue-Siskiyou National Forest, offering access to some of the most stunning scenery and immersive adventures imaginable. Hiking, hunting, and camping abound, but most visitors come to experience the Rogue River. With several guides and outfitters located here, it’s easy to fish for and actually catch salmon and steelhead year-round. There are restaurants, hotels and lodges nearby catering to Jerry’s Rogue Jets which has regular mail stops that you can join in warmer months. Named for the daughter of the first postmaster, Agness is one of the few communities in America still served by mail boats that run upriver from Gold Beach.
