Reedsport embraces the rugged Oregon spirit while honoring its heritage as a historic gathering place, nestled within its ancient, forested landscape. Reedsport began as a camp for the men who built the Southern Pacific Railroad track to Coos Bay. In the years since then, it’s served as a hub for the Oregon Dunes region. Chainsaw-carved wood sculptures and painted totem poles are all over town, and the Umpqua Discovery Center has exhibits on the region's natural and cultural history. Outside of town, Dean Creek Elk Viewing Area has covered vantage points to see the year-round population of Roosevelt Elk that live there.
